Gnostice Developer Tools, Licensing, and Roadmap

For 2009 and Beyond

On July 21, 2009, Girish Patil sent an open letter regarding our Developer Tools division to users. Here is an updated version.

Message from CEO

It is a great joy for me to bring you the news of our new developer tools roadmap and initiatives for the rest of 2009 and beyond. For quite some time now, we have been working on a comprehensive plan for our developer tools. We have also been listening to our customers and our would-be customers, and incorporating their expectations in to our plan. As we go forward with the plan, we feel the need to share some of the plan details with you.

Gnostice Developer Tools Division

Gnostice now has two separate and independently managed product divisions. One will be the Developer Tools division, which will be lead by me, Girish Patil. And, the other will be Self-Service Information Kiosk Solutions, which will be managed by Ashok Patil, a founding member of Gnostice.

We have been through our bit of overcoming challenges that come when growing a company from the beginning. We have now settled in our roles and can put a more focused approach to meeting customer needs. In the rest of this note, I will deal exclusively with the Developer Tools division.

Domain

To benefit new readers, I will shortly address the domain we work in. We create developer tools or software components that deal with electronic documents. We try to cover the entire spectrum - document creation, editing, enhancement, viewing, printing, converting,….

Platforms

We are heavily invested in Delphi, .NET, and Java now and we will continue to support these platforms. We have discontinued work on our ActiveX and COM components and we do not sell them anymore.

New Initiatives

As we have mentioned earlier, we have listened to our customers and incorporated some changes and new initiatives. Among them are the following:

Customer Service

To create a culture of transparency both internally and outside, and to nurture mutual trust between our development team and our customers, we will make our daily progress sheet available to our customers. This progress sheet will contains details including issues reported by customers, issues reported by internal QC, feature requests, and features that are still being worked out. Customers will be mailed access credentials to access this progress sheet. The progress sheet will be available as a Microsoft Excel worksheet.

Hassle-Free Licensing

We have pulled out all stops on the licensing front. Users can build any application they want with our components. Previously, there were some restrictions on this front. All that is gone now. Now, you need an OEM license only if you wish to distribute or bundle our components in non-compiled form or make it a part of another developer tool or software component.

Finally, in recognition of your support and the faith you have placed in us, we are pleased to make the following special offers for you. They are valid until July 31, 2009.
